Presenting: Speak in Sound.

This video caught my attention earlier this morning and I figured that this is the reason why I came up with the idea for this website, so here it goes:

Presenting: Speak In Sound. You can find them at www.myspace.com/speakinsound

Truly wonderful stuff. Reason number 748 to move to Canada. Right behind the Quarter Circle Forward Crew and The Rantradio Crew.

Can someone explain this to me?

What is the big deal with The Jonas Brothers?

According to that bin of knowledge known as Wikipedia, The Jonas Brothers are an American Pop-Rock Band who first gained popularity on the television show Hanna Montana.

So riddle me this Batman, why all of a sudden are these guys releasing a “movie” in 3d of their concert experience? I understand that kids like them and they are apparently squeaky clean enough to make it on the disney channel, but what is the appeal. Quite personally, i would pay 10 dollars to sit in a theater and watch U2 in 3d far more quickly than i would an act from the Disney Channel.

I see this alot actually. When i worked projection at a local movie theater chain, i was let in on the secret that Disney owns far too much for things to actually be fair, but i was also threading up preview reels of what was called “the digital experience”

“The Digital Experience” was a 7-minute exposition piece about all the different things Digital offered to customers at said movie theater. Back then, when Digital was first making the rounds in my area, they were showing clips of Pearl Jam and Queens of the Stone Age in HD quality as part of a “special concert series”

Now ive looked and tried to find actual information regarding these two bands and the countless others showcased in these Digital Experience Reels and when or where they would be playing. There are two major theaters in the area, so i cant be that hard…..right?

A recommendation. Stop putting Hanna Montana and The Jonas Brothers in 3d Concert Experiences at movie theaters, and instead get decent bands with a large body of work to come in and use this technology to their benefit. I know that me and a good portion of my friend base would kill to see “Jeremy” in HD on a huge movie theater screen and would most likely pay 10 bucks at least once to do so.

THE MYSPACE COMMENT SYSTEM BLOWS!

Ok so picture this, you just spent 10 minutes typing a response to a friends blog, and after you get done and want to submit said comment, myspace asks you to solve a captcha….you know, that thing with letters and numbers all squiggly and hard to see to verify that you are not a drone computer spamming half of the known internets.

So you solve the captcha-doo-daa and a pop-up appears, WARNING = UNKNOWN WEB OBJECT!. You click ok, and your diligent typing is lost, press the back button in firefox, and your comment is still lost.

Hey myspace, here is an idea. Its a wiped embed security measure, so why dont you hire someone who has a college education to actually script the fucking thing so i dont hate your website near as much as i normally do.

Maybe then you wouldnt loose what precious market share you had to some lame ass attempt at making everyone feel connected constantly, which is CERTAINLY EVERYTHING IVE EVER WANTED FROM A WEBSITE…….EVER….

Rant Done.

Oscar Hullabaloo…

I have to admit, when Wolverine was dancing onstage infront of what looked to be cardboard drama club cutouts made by 3rd graders, i was laughing hysterically, as was the rest of the people in attendance at last nights oscar party.

Had the good fortune of attending an oscar party hosted by my buddy Brian, and man was it a good time. He had worked up ballouts for everyone to check mark off who they thought would win. I think Brian and Alex won last night, i think i got 4 of 20 correct. Im obviously not current on my french language animated 17 minute short films.

The Heath Ledger win was very emotional, no one at the party got emotional, but to hear his daughters name as the very last word said to the crowd in attendance or anywhere in the world quite possibly may be the defining moment at the show.

When Slumdog took the best picture nod, it was a fitting end to the night. They tapped out a few other awards but i was extremely surprised by the way things went down. Im not sure if the Academy is voting based on merit or money count in certain catagories, But the truth of the matter is that Slumdog Millionaire was miles ahead of what i thought it would be, and it deserved the Best Picture award.

I loved the short-cuts to Dav Patel (the lead in slumdog) during the telecast. The man looked so happy and excited that other people were embracing his culture so much. The kid has a future in movies and i hope he gets cast properly.

My prediction for next year….Downy Jr. gets at least a nod for his work in the upcoming Sherlock Holmes, and Amelia might be the sleeper hit that we dont know about yet.

Grand Theft Auto Expansion Pack Impressions

Last night i got a chance to check out the first expansion to the wildly popular and successful Grand Theft Auto IV.

Titled “The Lost and The Damned”, this first of many promised game expansions from Rockstar Games hit the Xbox 360 a few days ago and after sitting down with the game for a couple hours of playtime, i can tell you that the team hasnt lost it spark.

The Lost and The Damned touts itself as a whole new experience separate from the main storyline of GTAIV, intersecting with characters and plot points from that game at times. This time around you control Johnny, a vice president of a motorcycle gang based in Liberty City called the Lost. Johnny’s biker “brother” and President of The Lost, Billy, has just been released from prison and rehab after a serious heroin addiction and “the business” has faltered in his absence. Johnny has been attempting to take care of things but at the start of the show, it doesn't seem to be going too well…

TLATD offers hours of gameplay, new motorcycle physics enhancements, and my personal favorite….The Double Barrel Sawed-Off Shotgun….which was a crazy amount of fun to play with. There is also a Biker Gang formation mechanic that allows you to keep your custom ride safe during hectic high speed pursuits.

The missions early in the playthrough seemed to revolve around high intensity gun battles with Rival Biker Gangs. Im waiting for more of a taste of this expansion in the days ahead and ill make sure to report if anything else tickles my fancy, but i can tell you now that my first taste was quite amazing and i hope the quality continues in the future.

Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and The Damned is only available as a digital download for 1600 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360. If you've got the cash to spend on some points, and have a copy of the original game, i highly recommend this expansion.

Recommending Rose…

I’ve always been a huge fan of Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht, co-hosts of the Diggnation podcast/videocast, so when i received an email today regarding the top story on the Current Diggnation episode….i had to post on it.

Turns out Kevin Rose, an avid Mac fanboy/user, met good ole Bill “anti-Mac” Gates. Kevin being the founder of Digg.com, and Bill owning one of everything, sat down for lunch and had themselves a laugh over viral videos and the like.

Now i don't think I've ever heard Kevin bash Mr. Gates personally, but as a Mac User it’s sort of common ground for the hate machine to spew forth. And I'm sure Gates knows Rose is a Apple junkie, but has far too many other things to worry about than to just give the kid hell over it.

Ive posted the episode above so you all can see the awkward photo of these two tech giants touching base with one another.

And yes, stuff like this has always interested me.

Nintendo Announces North American DSi Release Date

nintendo-dsi-11

Nintendo has long been the dominant force in handheld gaming, and today they have announced their newest gadget poised on poisoning the youth of America, The Nintendo DSi, will be released in North American Retail Shops on April 5th, 2009

According to various sources, The Nintendo DSi will be priced at US $169.99 and be available in both Black and a new, model-first color of Blue.

The Nintendo DSi’s claim to fame is its two 0.3 megapixel cameras and downloadable features. The unit introduces an SD Card slot which will work directly with the new DSiWare Shop, a downloadable content directory native to the hardware that will allow DSi Users to download applications, demos, and even possibly full games from an online service using the Nintendo Points currency exchange system that you may already be familiar with if you own the Wii and enjoy Virtual Console Titles.

Quite personally, i have a DS Lite and im not sure if I'll be in on day one to purchase this new revision of the hardware, but im mighty interested in video conferencing with friends while I beat them down in a game of portable online Street Fighter IV. Make it so Nintendo, and youve got a sure sale here.

What Constitutes a Lonely Island Anyway?

So Good Old Andy Samberg is at it again with his crew of misfits over at SNL have put together a new digital short entitled “I'm On A Boat” with special guest T-Pain! (sarcasm was completely intended with that exclamation point) You can see the complete Digital Short posted above

Apparently Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone are putting all these one hit wonders on physical media under the guise of “The Lonely Island”, who’s Debut Album Incredibad is now in fine retailers everywhere.

I can tell you now that this is the end of the world, and its time to start carrying shovels and identification papers everywhere….because if this album sells at all well, ill eat my shoes. And they are leathery bastards let me tell you.

Musings of a Slumdog

slumdog_millionaire

Hello One and All to the Recomedia blog! Here, yours truly and and a finite number of cohorts in media-crime will be posting all the news and not-news you need to know about crap that we think is really good….Recommended Media is the name of the game and I intend to misbehave…

So for my first post, i figured id analyze the 2009 Oscar sweetheart, Slumdog Millionaire. Slumdog is a Brutal, if not touching, story about  Jamal Malik, a bright boy with a troubled past who manages to beat out thousands of other hopefuls and make it onto the Indian variant of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.”

Now you wont find any spoilers here, but I can tell you with almost all certainty that this should be the movie to win best picture this year at the Oscars. The movie has an endearing quality that i haven't seen in a film since Director Danny Boyle’s Last Film Sunshine, which many of you may know as the only way Chris Evans could ever possibly redeem himself after the suck-fest that was Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Morpheus…

This film has already won an bevy of awards, including Best Film at BAFTA and Best Motion Picture in the Drama Category at the Golden Globes. And its poised to sweep the Academy like a small child questioning the meaning of reality after a dentist visit.

So yeah, take the time out of your busy schedule to take a look at Slumdog. Its quite possibly the best movie you will see all year.

The sad part is, the only place for this blog to go now is downhill. Oh Well, I'm sure ill think of something.
